Thunder Bay conservation group plans to protect ‘pristine’ Lake Superior Islands

Superior Islands Nature Reserve
A Lakehead University student holds a geode during an wilderness kayak trip to Spar Island. The students partnered with the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists seven years ago to assess several islands to be part of a possible new nature reserve. The creation of that nature reserve is now in the works.

The Thunder Bay Field Naturalists are working on the purchase of a new nature reserve, dubbed the Superior Islands Nature Reserve, spread across a number of remote island locations, all within the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area.
