A sacred fire that burned outside the MMIWG community hearings in Smithers, B.C., will be re-lit once a week until it is no longer needed to help families heal.

The emotional wounds reopened by testifying at the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls inquiry will take a long time to heal, advocates say.
